The Madonna
The Madonna was inspired by my love of Michelangelo’s famous statue, ‘The Pietà’. This piece was painted as a sacred piece to capture the healing essence of The Madonna, whose image and vision is held sacred in faith traditions around the world. She symbolises the embodiment of grace and unconditional love.
On a trip to Italy in 2019, I had the opportunity to see Michelangelo’s ‘The Pietà’ in person. Having begun my version of this Madonna painting prior to travelling I was able to add more depth to my own work in progress on my return home. Working with rich warm tones and cool highlights in multiple layers of glaze to add depth, warmth and feeling. May you feel love shine through in those that define the Madonna’s serenity.
